Outram Road, Muswell Hill. A rear extension with complete ground floor re-configuration.
The owners approached us to design and build a rear ground floor extension to a terraced house in Muswell Hill. The old layout did not work. The hallway was dark, giving no views through to the garden. There was no loo on the ground floor, and generally it needed more light throughout. In addition the accommodation was too small for a growing family.
There was an issue in that the garden at the rear was 1m lower than the floor level of the ground floor. Rather than see this as a problem we used this as part of the design to zone the areas, whilst still keeping everything open. A vast roof-light was installed between the existing house and the extension, which injects huge amounts of daylight into the kitchen area.
All aspects of construction and fit out were done by us; including the installation of the incredibly heavy and fragile roof-light!
Pocket hole doors were installed between the existing front lounge and the new kitchen to the rear, so areas of the open space can be shut off if wanted.
Our team built all the custom joinery on site, including a huge number of floating oak shelves in the front lounge for the owners’ extensive library! Wherever possible we mixed bespoke with off the peg units to control costs.
